To celebrate the last spelling test of the year, today our students completed their tests straight on to their tables. At first they were quite hesitant, but once they got going, they really enjoyed it. It was great fun trying to hide what we were doing, especially when the Principal Mrs Lander walked into the room!
After we finished the test, we then tried doing some spelling with our fingers in shaving cream that was sprayed all over our desks. While this was even more fun, it also helped clean the tables. In the end, our room was left sparkling clean and the kids had a heap of fun!

On the 11th of December, George and Ebony went with Mr Kennedy and Gill Black
to Queenscliff for an Environmental Forum. First we had to register and then
we had to go into a room where Darren Cheeseman and other politicians welcomed us and acknowledged all of the volunteers and their hard work.
Then we went into a tent where Bellarine Secondary College talked to us
about their Environment day, where over 240 people participated in 65 workshops. Some of the facts they shared on their slideshow included what would happen to Ocean Grove when sea levels rise.
Then there was Wallington Primary School who sung some songs about frogs, birds and trees and they performed a play about growling grass frogs and their habitat being destroyed. The school has been planting plants at Edsall Reserve to help the frogs and birds. They have also been breeding broad leaf hoppers because they eat bridle creeper, which is a weed that has been taking over the dunes in Ocean Grove.
We all had a good day and on the way back we got an ice-cream!

Today, congratulations must go to Keely (Flinders), Liam (Sturt) and Alex (Bass) who were elected captains for their respective houses. It was fantastic to see so many of 5KN both nominated and elected. Well done to Riley, Lucy, Ned, George, Jacob, Spencer, Dooges, Jemma and Brad who were all nominated. The feedback from the teachers was that all candidates spoke extremely well and it was not an easy task to vote for only two people.

Congratulations to Finn who, along with Emily from 5BA, was named one of the OGPS School Captains for 2010.
Well done to Darcy, Tom and Ned who were nominated and all gave very impressive speeches. Tomorrow we will be voting for House Captains and we expect more leadership roles to be filled by members of 5KN.

Today we looked at our Christmas traditions. During this week we will then have the chance to compare Christmas in Australia with Christmas in Canada thanks to a connection we are building with Mrs Bullock’s Grade 4/5 class from Franklin Public School in Kitchener, Ontario.
We looked at things we thought people overseas may find interesting like:
- the weather,
- sport and games (like cricket),
- swimming in pools,
- walking on the beach after lunch,
- the food we eat for lunch/dinner,
- what we do on Christmas Eve,
- when we open our presents,
- what we do on Boxing Day,
- decorating houses with Christmas lights,
- the Christmas trees we use and
- other family traditions.
Tomorrow we will be posting our writing to our blogs for everyone to read and comment on.

I just finished reading a book about a man who became obsessed with Googlewhacks. A Googlewhack is when you type two words into Google and there is only 1 result. The words must be English and in the dictionary and the page that shows up cannot be a word list or dictionary result.
Have a few goes, then add a comment with your lowest score (including the two words). The lowest score out of the whole class gets house points!
My best so far is ironbark – plectrum (396).
